Chapter 9: Backstage Report

I personally find the backstage shots of fashion shows most mesmerizing, more so than the show itself. I feel that the photographer really captures the essence of fashion, unplugged, sorta speak. Plus, something about the models just being in their own element (more or less) really makes the clothing that much more exciting and relate-able. Below are from the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2009 Show (one of my favorite shows of the season).

Chapter 6: Spring forward with J. Crew

Oh, how I adore J. Crew! Just walking by their window instantly gives me a flutter. They are never afraid to use color, bold prints, sequins, metallics in their everyday fashion, yet their line always exudes sophistication and class. Their jewelry is so exquisite, fun and utterly amazing...ahh, I am gonna get into so much trouble there this season!

Chapter 5 (part 3): the boyfriend jean

With all the craze surrounding Katie Holmes these days, it's hard to avoid the trend that she adores so much, the "boyfriend" jean.

1. The slightly fitted boyfriend

2. Dressing it up.

Chapter 5 (part 2): the boyfriend jacket

In the continuation of the "boyfriend series," the most raved about item of the season is probably the "boyfriend" jacket. I don't know, for me it's like an instant power item. I just feel transformed in it. With my head held high, shoulders aback...off I go to concur the world (office) in my oversized jacket..

1. A night out.
How to wear it: I wanted to play on the masculinity and femininity in this set. The dress is more fitted and sculpted AND I didn't want the length of the dress should not exceed more than a few inches from the rim of the jacket.

2. At the Office
How to wear it: Try not to over-play the boldness of the jacket, so I combined it with a top with a softer and more sensual fabric. Add to it a mid-length skirt and a good looking pair of heels to accentuate the legs.

Chapter 5 (part 1): the boyfriend shirt

It is undeniably the season of the "boyfriend." By "boyfriend" I do not mean everyone should immediate go out and get a boy on their arms, but rather it's the season to raid your boyfriend's closet. We'll start off with the boyfriend shirt, continue on to the boyfriend jacket, and then the boyfriend jeans. Important note: Personally, I believe that only ONE "boyfriend" piece should be incorporated into an outfit at once, otherwise I am at risk of looking more like a hobo than a fashionista.

1. All legs (photo credit: the sartorialist)
How to wear it: Oh, how I adore this look! With the oversized "boyfriend" shirt, pairing it with dark-colored, fitted leggings/tights/jeans is the perfect way to avoid being "swallowed" in the shirt. Adding a pair of dark ankle boots or chunky sandals is just an added bonus to elongate the legs.

2. The shirt dress (photo credit garance dore)
How to wear it: Adding a touch of femininity with an accentuating belt at your natural waist immediately eliminate the "sack" effect. Show some legs to leave the mind to the imagination.

Chapter 4: Weekend Home Edition

It's Saturday in New York, a brisk and cool morning to start the day. Sipping coffee and eating bagel is my way of preparing for a relaxing weekend lying ahead. I thought I would take a break from fashion today, and recap on some great interior decor and architecture work I recently saw while flipping through the April issue of Metropolitan Home.

These photos are actually of the same house. What intrigued me to these particular photos is how the photographer captured the streamlined form, clean lines and intricate details of the place. I also love it when architects incorporate glass within residential buildings, so the centered glass shower and glass staircase in the terrace are just whimsical to me! What a place.
